In sufficient amounts UVC rays can cause skin irritation (Erythema) and in particular a painful eye infection (conjunctivitis). For these reasons limitations have been assessed by e.g. the American Medical Association and can be seen in the diagram presented on the left side.

In contradiction to UVB rays, which penetrate human skin very deeply, a connection to skin cancer and intensive UVC rays has not been proven in the past.
